Pubblichiamo l'appello della SCIRA e del vincitore dell'emmy award Vince Casalaina per la produzione del video per gli 80 anni della Classe, intitolato "Traditions Build Winners".
Serious Sailing, Serious Fun: Traditions Build Winners
Here's the latest on my documentary on the Snipe Class. I thought you'd be interested in where its gone over the past year.
Jerry Thompson's been a part of the Snipe story for almost 60 years. He's sailed his Snipes around the world just about anyplace you could line up two boats on a starting line. He's donating his 1997 Nickels Snipe #29302 to be raffled off to help us raise money for this project. He believes that telling our Snipe story will be good for one design sailing and very good for the Snipe Class.
My 30 minute high definition video project highlights how those who sail Snipes keep producing winners by emphasizing the traditions of competition and sportsmanship, traditions that are the foundation of the Class. It's a strong promotional piece for the Class featuring young and old Snipers from around the world telling their stories about what brought them to the Class.
I appreciate the financial support that SCIRA International has given this documentary over the past year. Now I'm asking for your personal support to help get this project edited by summertime, the 80th Anniversary of the Snipe.
You can donate money for this project on-line at Kickstarter.com and at the same time you can be entering the raffle I'm holding. My Kickstarter project is titled "Traditions Build Winners as the Snipe turns 80". Here's the url:

Kickstarter.com let's everyone donate to the project, no matter what you can afford. If your donation is $25, it is just as valuable to reaching the goal of $7,500 as one of $500. Every donation counts. There are rewards at each level of participation that are outlined on the Kickstarter page. Please dig deep to help complete the video and to make it available to promote the Class.
Here's how the raffle works. Between now and April 15 (For those in the US, that's tax day), anyone who donates $250 will be entered in the drawing for Jerry's boat. If you donate $500 you get two entries. $2,500 get's you 10 entries. We only give away the boat if we reach the $7,500 Kickstarter threshold and I don't get any money if we don't reach our goal.
Jerry's boat is in sail away condition at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach California. You can pick it up there, or we'll help you get it to somewhere else, but it's FOB at the club. It does not come with a trailer.
For those of you looking for a US tax deduction, you can send a check directly to SCIRA International, 2812 Canon St., San Diego, CA 92106. Make sure you put "Snipe documentary" on your check so it get's properly credited. Donations to SCIRA International during this period will also get you an entry in the raffle.
If you want to keep up to date on the Serious Sailing, Serious Fun: traditions build winners project, you can follow us on the documentary's Facebook page. You'll find the latest video clips of the project along with stills and other descriptions of the current state of the project. Sign up and you'll get updated every time we add something there. It's been over 40 years since the Snipe Class had a documentary that explained why one boat was the right boat for everyone. This project will carry the Class well into the 21st century and help keep it growing, especially with younger sailors who are looking for Serious Sailing and know a lot about Serious Fun.
Please help complete the documentary this year. Donate to the documentary on Kickstarter or through SCIRA International. If you know others who might want to help, please send this email along to them.
Sincerely,
Vincent Casalaina

2009 Snipe World Championshiip
The 2009 Snipe World Championship in San Diego was everything competitors thought it would be. The winds were light but never so light that you could not have great tactical racing. The competition was intense with victory in question right up until the last day.
Snipes take their motto very seriously. Serious Sailing, Serious Fun. The organizers made sure that there were plenty of opportunities for Serious Fun on shore from scavenger hunts to the Awards Banquet, you rarely find Snipers not having serious fun.
Young Snipers made a mark at this regatta too. Two of the top 10 finishers were almost young enough to be the grandsons of some of the competitors. That bodes well for the future of the Class as more young sailors explore tactical one design sailing.
