... visto da Kathleen Tocke (dopo la seconda giornata).

So far the racing at the Women's Worlds Championship is very close among the top 6 boats.  The first day, we sailed in almost every wind condition - very light and flat to very windy and wavy.  Team Italy sailed fast and smart the first race.  The second race was medium wind and Team USA led around the race course.  The big wind in the last race of the day was quite fun and challenging.  Many of the sailors were far too light for the breeze and struggled.  Team Uruguay sailed fast and flat in the breeze, but the top Spanish boat did an excellent job of staying with them.  Team USA enjoyed the breeze, but was at a disadvantage when, the skipper, Olympic gold medalist, Anna Tunnicliffe, fell out of the boat after the start!

The Race Committee is doing an excellent job of keeping the competitors on land until there is enough wind for racing.  Unfortunately, on the water, there are too many boats with marks and flags, always moving around the course.  Quite a few times, the windward mark was not set until the sailors arrived at the mark, and on a couple of occasions, the finish boat was not anchored when the first few boats crossed the line.

Overall, the sailors are having an excellent time in Roquetas.  The town is a nice beach town, the water is the most beautiful blue.  The yacht club is very hospitable, and the Spanish sailors are very friendly. There are dinners and social events every night, but they are far too late for the non-Spanish sailors.  Dinners start at 9:30!

Ciao,
Kathleen

(team USA: Tunnicliffe - Tocke)
