Dai prossimi Mondiali Juniores ed Assoluti sarà introdotta anche per lo Snipe la Medal Race.
Come noto, negli eventi più importanti delle Classi olimpiche, nell'ultima giornata di regate, si disputa, tra le prime dieci imbarcazioni della classifica, la "medal race".
Tale prova assegna alle barche un punteggio doppio e non vi è la possibilità dello scarto.
Questo il testo in Inglese che farà parte delle istruzioni di regata:
After the final series races have been completed for the fleet the medal race will be sailed, rule A4.1 is changed so that the points are doubled, and rule A4.2 is changed so that the scores are based on the number of boats assigned to compete in that race.
Rules 30.2, 44.3, A4.2 and A5, a boat’s penalty score shall be based on the number of boats in the medal race. This changes rules A4.2 and A5.
A boat assigned to compete in the medal race shall make a genuine effort to start, sail the course and finish. A breach of this SI will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes rule 60.1(a). The penalty for this breach will be ranking the boat tenth in the regatta.
Questa innovazione per lo Snipe è stata "raccomandata" dall'Isaf, dopo il meeting dello scorso 29 febbraio tenutosi a Dunkerque.
